Allen Chen spent 20+ years in commercial roles in Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) across Asia-Pacific, with DEKRA, UL and Intertek – three of the larger groups in the industry. The work spanned business development, strategy, and sales and marketing management: growing key accounts, building investment cases, opening new markets, and running CRM and process-improvement work alongside colleagues in operations and technical teams.
A good deal of it came down to helping manufacturers meet the requirements of their export markets, which is the situation the worked example in Chapter 4 of Volume 1 describes.

He holds a Master of Professional Business Analysis from Victoria University of Wellington, covering enterprise architecture, data analytics, business process modelling and agentic AI workflow orchestration, and an MBA from the University of Minnesota.
These reports are written from the commercial side of the industry rather than the technology side. That is the vantage point he has, and it is not the only useful one – which is why every figure carries its source, so you can check the working rather than take his word for it.
